INDICATIONS:
BUPAWIN PLUS is indicated for the treatment of theileriosis (East Coast Fever), especially in advanced cases accompanied by pulmonary oedema.
- Buparvaquone targets and eliminates theilerial schizonts (in lymphoid tissues) and piroplasms (in red blood cells), and also inhibits the preschizont stages during the incubation period. It acts by disrupting the parasite’s mitochondrial electron transport system.
- Furosemide, a potent diuretic, aids in the resolution of pulmonary oedema.
WARNING/PRECAUTIONS
- Mild localized swelling may occur at the injection site but typically resolves within a few days. BUPAWIN PLUS is generally safe and overdosage is unlikely to result in serious adverse effects.
- Only intramuscular administration is recommended.
- Intravenous injection may cause severe shock.
- Subcutaneous injection results in poor absorption and significantly reduced efficacy.
- As Furosemide is chemically related to sulphonamides, avoid use in animals known to be sensitive to sulphonamides. ption within 42 days of treatment.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Administer intramuscularly into the neck muscle at a dose of 1 ml per 20 kg body weight (equivalent to 2.5 mg/kg Buparvaquone and 2.75 mg/kg Furosemide).
- Repeat the dose after 48 hours.
- In severe cases with significant pulmonary oedema, an additional treatment at half the dose may be required after 24 hours.
