Description

ACTION:

REBRAL Injection provides Thiamine (Vitamin B1), an essential nutrient involved in carbohydrate metabolism and energy production at the cellular level. Thiamine is particularly important in the breakdown of pyruvic acid and lactic acid, which accumulate in actively working muscles.

In situations where carbohydrates are the primary energy source or when glucose is added to the diet, the requirement for thiamine increases significantly. Thiamine functions as part of a coenzyme essential for glucose metabolism and also works in conjunction with Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) in protein and amino acid metabolism. Thiamine impacts all body tissues, with the nervous system, stomach, and heart being the most sensitive. As a water-soluble vitamin, thiamine cannot be stored in the body and must be replenished regularly, especially in hard-working animals where dietary intake may be insufficient.

Thiamine is naturally present in meat and cereals, with minimal amounts synthesized in the gut-provided the animal is not under stress. However, thiamine is sensitive to heat and can be destroyed during cooking. High doses are reported to help calm nervous or excitable horses.

Clinical signs of deficiency include fatigue, muscle weakness, reduced appetite, and increased heart rate-common in endurance horses fed high-grain diets. Many of these symptoms are linked to elevated levels of lactic and pyruvic acids, which interfere with normal nerve function due to their dependence on proper carbohydrate metabolism.
